State Legislation Alert: ACTION ITEMS

These are the bills we are following in the Georgia General Assembly.  We need all volunteers to contact their respective State Representative and State Senator and encourage them to vote accordingly. 

SB/HR 33 (Zero Based Budgeting) and SB 223 (Government Accountability - Sunset) -
GTPI urges a vote to PASS out of House Committee both SB 33/HB 33 and SB 223. Download list of committee members to contact here.

HB 87 - Immigration Reform Bill -
GTPI urges a Senate Committee to keep the legislative language in HB 87 rather than that of SB 40 and pass.  Download list of committee members to contact here.

HB 387 Substitute (Tax Bill) All Representatives -
This bill will likely come up on Wednesday.  GTPI urges a vote of 'NO' on HB 387 substitute in all versions. It chooses winners and losers and increases taxes.  Please call all state representatives immediately to oppose this bill.  Download list of all General Assembly House Members to contact here.
 

Federal Legislation Alert: ACTION ITEMS

Representative Tom Price, he asked us to support HR 1111 - the "Decrease Spending Now Act" (Price sponsored, with 25 co-sponsors). The resolution would rescind $45 billion in unobligated discretionary appropriations, with a report from OMB due within 60 days, and excludes the Dept of Defense, the Dept of Veterans Affairs, and the Social Security Administration.  

H.R.910 - Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, which amends the Clean Air Act to prohibit the EPA from "promulgating any regulation concerning, taking action relating to, or taking into consideration the emission of a greenhouse gas to address climate change."Please contact your House representative and get this passed. If you live in Rep. Phil Gingrey or Rep. John Barrow's districts, please contact them to ask for their support oif H.R. 910.  If the bill is passed by the full committee , it will come up very soon for a vote in the full House.

Obama's War on Libya: A Constitutional View by Michael Boldin

With military action taking place in Libya right now, the essential question must be asked: Is it even Constitutional? For those of you who don’t want to read more than a sentence or two, here’s the short answer. Absolutely not.

DELEGATED POWERS

The ninth and tenth amendments, while they didn’t add anything new, defined the Constitution. In short, they tell us that the federal government is only authorized to exercise those powers delegated to it in the Constitution…and nothing more. Everything else is either prohibited or retained by the states or people themselves.

What does this have to do with Libya? Well, whenever the federal government does anything, the first question should always be, “where in the Constitution is the authority to do this?” What follows here is an answer regarding American bombs being dropped on Libya.

NOTE:  We need to contact our US Senators and Representatives and get them to uphold their oath of office by reigning in the Executive Branch which is operating outside the bounds of the Constitution.  Without the checks and balances defined in the Constitution, we are no longer functioning as a republic.  Now, we have a oligarchy of the Executive Branch and the United Nations.
